REPORTS:
REAR COMMODORE: Wayne reported on the new work barge being floated at the workday with the help of several club members, notable Ken Hays, Sean Kalic, Henry Otto and Bob Mullen.
Detailed work done to keep the dock secured during the rapid fluctuation in lake levels. Notified board of intent to request funds for dock improvement next Spring.
VICE COMMODORE: Tom discussed work done on the shelter. Bob installed flashing on eaves and attempted installation on peaks but will need a non-windy day and some assistance. Bob questioned whether peak flashing was necessary and requested board members to take a look. Tom recommended that we install flashing all the way around.
Tom also suggested renting an auger to drill the holes for posts in the boat parking area. Ken would like to accomplish this job prior to the boats being hauled out this season. No determination as to a specific date to accomplish the job.
Wayne said he would anchor the old shelter soon.
TREASURER: Bob distributed a printed report with brief discussion. He thanked Sean for hanging the BVYC sign on the new shelter.
It was determined that expenditures would be approximately $1300-1600 through the end of the year and into next year.
RACE DIRECTOR: Catherine reported that she had ordered the race awards for this season. The Memorial Day Race trophy has been engraved
SOCIAL DIRECTOR: Sean reported that the pig roast was successful and thanked all the participants. He detail arrangements for the annual meeting. Cost will be $12.95/person, meal will be a chicken dish served buffet style. Bob suggested invitations be sent to club members. Sean said K-State requested a head count one week prior to the event, to be held Nov. 15th from 6-9 pm. Speaker to be an ocean sailor with race experience. Sean motioned, Bob seconded a burgee for the speaker as a modest honorarium. Motion carried unanimously.
SECRETARY: Absent
OLD BUSINESS: Further discussion about the Fall banquet and the possibility of some sort of auction, possibly Phil Hostetter photos. Discussion yielded inconclusive results, the feeling being that there would be no auction
.
Discussion of nominees for open board positions, which are: COMMODORE, VICE COMMODORE, SOCIAL DIRECTOR, & RACE DIRECTOR. Bob stated the he would like to see new blood on the board and if any members came forward to volunteer for the treasurer’s position, he would step aside. Bart was not present to voice a preference. Several names were mentioned as possibly being board members, among them Marty Ottenheimer, Henry Otto, Carl Hirichs, Ken Conrow, Diane Barker, Jeff Head, Shannon Herow and David Sislow. Bob suggested that the rear commodore send an e-mail on the server list to petition members for interest. Some of the possibilities discussed were to be called.
Plans were discussed for the new trailer extension, with various suggestions as to the design. Bob said that $100 had already been allocated to the task and that Dave Ross had talked to a welder he worked with about the modification.
NEW BUSINESS: Winterizing was discussed.
It was decided that we should lave the main dock in the water for the winter but remove the walkway. It was generally agreed that the first week of December would allow adequate time for boat removal, but the job could be done sooner if the weather deteriorates.
The committee boat will be serviced and parked under the old shelter. Tom stated that he would donate two large tarps for the old shelter to enable the club to store the tractor and committee boat in somewhat sheltered condition as well as freeing up space in the dinghy park.
The tractors will be serviced and winterized, hopefully to be parked under shelter. The Ford tractor should have the antifreeze checked since the radiator was punctured this summer.
The generator should be serviced and covered.
The work barge will be dragged onto the beach out of freeze/thaw conditions.
Bob moves/Wayne seconds that meeting be adjourned. Motion carried at 8:40
Submitted by reluctant acting secretary Wayne Martin
