Minutes of the Annual Meeting

Blue Valley Yacht Club

November 13, 2004

 

Commodore Diane Barker called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

 

Secretary Bart Bartholomew read the minutes from the 2003 Annual Meeting.  Ken Conrow moved and Maarten van Swaay seconded that the minutes be accepted as read; the membership approved the minutes unanimously.

 

Reports:

 

            Treasurer Tom Albright explained that the Financial Report for the year appeared on the back cover of the evening’s program. 

 

            Vice Commodore Ken Hays thanked the mowers who had kept the club grounds mowed throughout the year.  He mentioned that plans for replacing the old dinghy dock are well on the way.  He also reminded the membership that the winterization work day was scheduled for December 4.

 

            Rear Commodore Wayne Martin reported that all the moorings had been pulled and serviced.  Wayne thanked Bob Mullen for heading up the mooring service effort and a long list of people who had assisted Bob.  Information about each mooring has been tabulated and is available for future reference.  Wayne, with pleasure, reported that the re-built dock hinges had held-up all summer long. 

 

            Race Director Randy Zelenka presented the Race Awards for the 2004 Race Season.  The award recipients were:  Scott Liebler Memorial Race – 1. Chris Ross, 2. Ken Conrow, 3.  Bart Bartholomew;  Chapman, Shipley and Bennett Spring Series TrophyBob Mullen;  Summer Series1. Bart Bartholomew, 2. Bob Mullen

 

Old Business: 

 

            Mrs. van Swaay commented on the age and physical condition of the members of the Society of Ancient Windsurfers with hopes that these sailors would serve as motivation to younger sailors.

 

            Commodore Barker reminded the membership that sealed bids were being accepted for the old brush hog; these bids will be opened at the 2005 Spring Banquet.

 

New Business: 

 

Chris Ross explained briefly Henry Otto’s proposal that BVYC get involved with starting an Optimist Youth Sailing Program.  This program would be for youth starting at age 8 and continuing until they are eligible for Sea Scouts.  The program would include construction of the sailing prams.

 

            Chris also reported that Henry Otto had suggested that BVYC consider constructing a friendlier welcome sign at the entrance to the Club grounds.

 

New Board of Directors:  Rear Commodore Wayne Martin read the slate of nominees for 2004.  They were:  Commodore – Diane Barker; Vice Commodore – Ken Hays; Rear Commodore – Wayne Martin; Treasurer – Tom Albright; Secretary - Bart Bartholomew; Social Director – Ned Gatewood and Race Director -open.  Diane Barker nominated and Dick Bailey seconded that Bob Mullen be added to the slate as Race Director.  Wayne Martin moved and Chuck Oaklief seconded that the slate of directors be approved as read with the addition of Bob Mullen as Race Director.  The membership approved unanimously. 

 

Commodore Barker asked the attendees to give a round of applause to the new board of directors and to Bob and Jane Mullen for the outstanding banquet arrangements. 

 

Bob Mullen moved and Barb Gatewood seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 7:55 p.m.

 

Dick and Dee Bailey entertained the attendees with a briefing/slide show entitled, “Won’t you come home Dick Bailey?”
