REPORTS:

Vice Commodore:

Ken Hays reported that he is working on the leveling devices for the Ford tractor.

Ken thanked Gene Lindgren (now tractor certified) for mowing.

Ken also reported that there would be no additional support required for Scout Troop 74’s sailing activity.

Rear Commodore: Absent

Social Director:

Bob and Jane Mullen reported that there had been 17 people at the 2 July “raft-up” in the shelter; activities included games with prizes, food and drink; good times were had by all attendees.

Treasurer:      Absent

Race Director:

Randy reported that the committee boat had still not been repaired due to backlog at Bottger’s; there will, however, be a race on Sunday.

            Commodore:

Diane Barker reported that the Women’s Sailing Seminar had gone well.  Attendees were:  Anne Marchin and her three daughters, Tracie Kalic, Colleen Lindgren and Diane Pikul (ground portion only).  Diane offered her thanks to all the volunteers who made the seminar possible.  Commodore Barker would like to see a Director of Sailing Education/Racing Instruction on the Board of the Club to oversee future events of this nature.  Diane also reported that there are 7 leftover caps available for purchase by interested Club members.

OLD BUSINESS:

Harbor light:  Bob Mullen reported that the light has been received and that it would be installed on top of the KSU shed; Bob will install the light along with reflective backing to avoid disturbing the neighbors.

Brush hog:  Ken Hays recommended that the Club buy a new heavy duty model rather than attempt to repair our badly worn one.  Randy Zelenka moved that we buy a Rhino brush hog in Topeka for $850 plus tax;  Bob Mullen seconded the motion and it was approved unanimously.

Removal of old work barge:  The Board decided to disassemble it on-site where it currently rests; Bob, Ken and Bart will work on it on Wednesday, 7 June.

NEW BUSINESS:

Bird droppings in the new shelter:  After much discussion, the consensus was to not prevent birds from nesting completely.  Instead, the board members will research means by which the swallows can be encouraged to nest only on the outside-most rafter.  The other rafters, girders, and supports shall be made that birds can not sit on them.

Martin house:  The board discussed the possibility of buying and erecting a Martin house on the Club grounds.  Jane Mullen moved, Randy Zelenka seconded and the Board approved purchase of a Martin house at a cost not to exceed $150.  Bart Bartholomew shall place the order through a Martin catalog service

Labor Day Long Distance Race:  The date for this race is Saturday, 4 September

Social during full moon in August:  Bob and Jane Mullen will develop and announce plans for a raft-up on Friday, 28 August.  The event will take place either in Carnahan Cove or the shelter depending upon the weather.

Gravel:  The need for gravel on the Club road and for a path to the new dock location was discussed.  Ken Hays will obtain price information and forward it to Board members for approval.

Past members:  A final attempt will be made to contact past members who have boats on the Club grounds but who have not renewed their membership.  Bob Mullen will contact Gordon Andrews and Diane Barker will contact Bruce Pistone and Al Brightman.

Adjournment:  The meeting adjourned at about 8:45 p.m.; next meeting will be on September 6 at Bob and Jane Mullen’s home.
