REPORTS:

No
report
Rear Commodore:
Wayne Martin reviewed the mooring report that had been prepared by Bob Mullen; only 2 moorings remain to be serviced this year. Bob’s report contains detailed information about each mooring and recommendations for future service. Thanks to all of you who have helped with the mooring service project.
Social Director:
Commodore Diane thanked Bob and Jane for the great fall pig roast.
Jane Mullen reported that 52 people had attended the pig roast; the cost of the food was approximately $5 per person; there were lots of food and leftovers.
Jane also reported that 21 persons had participated in the fall workday.
The next social will be the fall banquet; plans are currently being developed.
Treasurer:
Tom Albright submitted a written treasurer’s report; he thinks the income for the year is complete except for $30 due in from the K-State Sailing Club for an additional boat.
Secretary:
Bart Bartholomew thanked
Wayne Martin for taking minutes at the September meeting.
Bart also reported on the
presentation of a BVYC t-shirt to Phil Hostetter.
Race Director:
Randy reported the committee boat was still deadlined. Bottger’s Marine had worked on the boat but it still doesn’t run under full power. Randy has contacted a repair shop in Junction City who will look at our motor after he has worked through his current backlog.
There was considerable discussion about considering replacing the current Mercury motor with another new/used motor and the possibility of using the work barge as the committee boat. No consensus was reached.
OLD
BUSINESS:
Lighthouse/latrine: Wayne Martin moved and Tom Albright seconded a motion to table this idea until next year; the motion was approved by all present
Disposal of old brush hog: Bob Mullen moved and Randy Zelenka seconded that the old brush hog be put up for sale via sealed bid; bids to be accepted until the close of the fall banquet. The motion carried unanimously. Bart shall put an ad in the next newsletter.
NEW
BUSINESS:
Optimist Youth Sailing Program: Chris Ross reported on a discussion he had recently had with Henry Otto about the need for a sailing program for youth about the age of Cub Scouts. Our current youth programs serve the needs of teenagers but not the younger youth. The Optimist Club sponsors youth sailing in other communities. Henry and Chris will do research on this topic and report to BVYC at later meetings.
Fall banquet: Bob and Jane Mullen are currently working on plans; details to follow.
Memorial for Phil Hostetter: Diane Barker raised this issue for discussion; there was no consensus.
Canoe donated by Phil Hostetter: Bob Mullen reported that Phil had donated his canoe to BVYC shortly before his death. The canoe is at the water’s edge; paddles are in the canoe; it is for club member’s use.
Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at about 9:15 p.m.; next meeting will be on
November 1 at Ken Hay’s home.
