BLUE VALLEY YACHT CLUB

REGULAR BOARD MEETING

June 6 2005

Directors present: Bob Mullen, Ken Hays, Diane Barker, Tom Albright, Ned Gatewood, and Wayne Martin

Directors absent: Bart Bartholomew

Others present: None

Meeting called to order at 6:38 by Diane Barker

Minutes of the May meeting approved with no revisions.

REPORTS:

            COMMODORE: No report.

VICE COMMODORE: Ken reported that some gravel had been laid on the road two weeks ago. When gravel is ordered for the dinghy dock approach we may want to re-gravel the drive going down to the shelter. A request was made to order he gravel for the dock approach immediately.

REAR COMMODORE: Wayne reported on the rapidly changing lake levels and the need for rather frequent dock repositioning. Bob and Henry Otto have set their moorings. At some point during the summer the two other lost moorings will be reset.

.TREASURER: Tom distributed a written report with brief discussion on some points contained therein. There was further discussion on how best to handle abandoned boats with no firm resolution adopted.

RACE DIRECTOR: Bob reported that the inspection went “well as usual”. The docks were not an issue.

Races have been run and the committee boat runs OK. It is an easy boat to handle on the trailer.

A dinghy dock section is still missing-several members will attempt to find it.

The fire extinguisher was inspected and tested prior to the Corps inspection and is in place.

SOCIAL DIRECTOR: Ned reported that the 6/3/05 event scheduled for KSU Vet Med was cancelled due to weather concerns.

Some beverages from the workday are in storage awaiting the next function.

SECRETARY: Absent

OLD BUSINESS:

The damaged seat on the John Deere lawn tractor was replaced at the cost of $50.81.

Ken will have Alternative Welding fabricate hinges for the dinghy dock.

Bob showed the board a sample of some netting he had found in an attempt to resolve the sticky ‘bird shield’ problem. The netting can be easily stapled up at a very modest cost to deter the swallows from nesting. While the board approved of the solution, Ned wanted to be on the record as stating that the membership deserved a “more appropriate” solution.

NEW BUSINESS:

John Joehnk’s grandson emailed the club requesting permission to visit the memorial flagpole. The board would encourage his visit.

Bob has been assisting Tom McCabe with becoming accustomed to sailing using the buddy system.

Tom has sold his boat and his mooring is now for sale or otherwise available.

Ned presented a preliminary plan for a stone wall along the north side of the shelter. Some discussion on weight issues followed and further discussion on materials and costs were talked about. Ned will follow up with estimates and more information.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
