REGULAR BOARD MEETING

May 2nd, 2005

at Tom and Gloria Albright’s home

 

 

Directors Present:     Diane Barker, Ken Hays, Bob Mullen, Tom Albright and Ned Gatewood                                   

 

Directors Absent:      Bart Bartholomew and Wayne Martin

 

Others Present:          None

 

Call to Order:             Meeting called to order at 6:37 by Diane Barker

 

Tom Albright moved that the minutes of the April 4 meeting be approved as written; Ken Hays seconded the motion and the motion carried unanimously.

 

REPORTS:

 

Vice Commodore: 

                        Ken Hays reported that the club grounds were in pretty good shape. 

 

             Rear Commodore:

Bob Mullen, reporting for the rear commodore, said that Mooring #4 had been replaced by Henry Otto. The scouts had painted all of the mooring balls and that #17 had broken lose and must be replaced.

 

Social Director:

           Ned said that the Veterinarian School would be using the BVYC grounds on June 4th and would provide a porta potti and garbage disposal.

 

Treasurer:

                                 Tom Albright submitted a written treasurer’s report. 

Secretary:

                                  No report.

 

Race Director: 

Bob reported that there was still trouble with the committee boat but he was   hoping to get it repaired in time for the May 15 race.

 

            Commodore:

                                    No report

 

OLD BUSINESS:

                                     The vice commodore said that he would have dinghy dock hardware made at a welding shop. He also said that the entrance road will need gravel and he has a price quotation from MWC. More gravel will be required after the dinghy dock is in. Ned moved that the BOD vote to permit Ken to order 2-3 truckloads for the road repair. The motion was seconded by Tom and carried.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

                                    The BOD discussed methods to make new members welcome and to know more about sailing on Tuttle Creek Lake. After discussion the BOD agreed on the following:

 

1.      The commodore should send a letter of welcome to each new member.

2.      Each new member should be assigned to a current member who will become a buddy sailor. The buddy sailor will point out the general characteristics, obstacles, depths and weather patterns of the lake, explain club policies and if possible go on a buddy sail with the new member.

3.      Consider having a picture of the new member along with a few words in the club newsletter.

4.      Ensure that a handbook is made available.

5.      Introduce the new member at club events.

 

Adjournment:  The meeting adjourned at about 7:55 p.m.; next meeting will be on June 6 at Bart Bartholomew’s home.
