Meeting called to order at 6:38 by Commodore Ron Frey

Minutes of the June meeting approved with no revisions.

REPORTS:

COMMODORE: Ron reported that the grounds have been mowed twice thus far. The COE inspection was attended by Maarten & Ron. The Corps had no issues, noting no problems to correct. The committee boat has been registered and the appropriate stickers are in place.

VICE COMMODORE: Wayne reported that he and Bob re-erected the enclosure around the porta-potty. The redwood boards have been re-installed on the shelter railing.

REAR COMMODORE: Bob distributed a very in depth report (pun intended) on mooring status, along with a schedule for service in upcoming years. The commodore noted Bob’s diligence and the ease of continuity for the next rear commodore. Minor work remaining this year was also discussed.

.TREASURER: A written report was distributed with the agenda package. Maarten discussed his contact with Mather about getting another porta-potty for the upcoming Sea Base. The on-site unit will be pumped out prior to the event as well.

                RACE DIRECTOR: Not present.

SOCIAL DIRECTOR: Kris will alert Daryl about putting the pig roast information in the next newsletter. E-mail reminders will also be sent.

SECRETARY: Not present.

OLD BUSINESS:

·         The status of the Adams, Andrews and Renner boats was questioned. BVYC has a policy in the bylaws for dealing with delinquent fees on vessels stored at the club. The Renner issue is resolved, but calls will be made to Adams and Andrews requesting payment.

·         Ron will purchase mulch/shavings to spread in the latrine enclosure. Gravel will be placed when we order the next load.

·         Sun shades purchased by Jane Mullen will be used for upcoming events at the shelter.  A more permanent wind/sun block will be ordered and installed, utilizing cable and heavy-duty white canvas tarps. It was decided by the BOD that the west side would be done first and then a determination be made as to whether to continue with the rest of the shelter.

NEW BUSINESS:

·         The dock anchors were discussed. A simpler method of dealing with the dock during rapidly changing lake levels using winches and cable was discussed. This would allow for crossing the anchor chains, making dock access by keel boats much easier. For this year, anchors will remain as they are and Bob will replace the chains, since he and Bart pulled on them so hard that they (the chains) gave out.

·         Pans of various meats (brisket, chicken, pork) will be purchased from Ramblers by Rob & Kris for this year’s “hog roast”. Coffee and tea will be provided. Members will be requested to bring side dishes and their own adult beverages.

·         Kansas Sea Base, August 15-17, promises to be an active time with 50 participants signed up. With support personnel we should expect well over 100 people on the grounds that weekend. An evening sail club event will be hosted by Ron & Linda Frey on August 15th but neither event will conflict with the other.

·         The pirate party is scheduled for August 9th. A preliminary invitation e-mail has been sent, with reminders scheduled for Monday and Thursday. Meat, dessert and limeade will be provided. Members attending are asked to bring a side dish to share.

·         Bob will use the battery from the work barge as the generator starting battery once he has finished a few tasks with the barge. Purchase of a cart for the small generator will be put off until a later date.

·         There was discussion on advertising BVYC during this period of high fuel prices. It was agreed that there might indeed be more interest among the public, but no concrete plans were developed.

The next regular BOD meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on September 8th at Ron Frey’s house.

Meeting adjourned at 7:31 p.m.
