Host: Daryl Strouts

Directors Present:  Frey, Loyd, van Swaay, Crespino, Mahorney & Strouts

Directors Absent:  Martin

Others present:  None

Call to Order by Commodore Frey at 6:31 p.m.

Approval of Minutes:  The minutes of the April meeting of the directors were approved as written.

Reports:

Commodore – Frey reported on the good work done at Work Day.  Trash piles were cleaned up as were the grounds in general.  The reconditioned dock walkway was completed and launched.  Special notation was made of the significant amount of personal work Wayne Martin did on this project.  Bob Mullen was recognized for his long service and hospitality in the Club with a sign indicating that the driveway to the club would now be known as Mullen Drive.

Vice Commodore – No report

Rear Commodore – Loyd reported that all but two moorings were assigned.  He also updated the progress on construction of the Opti-dinghies.

Treasurer – van Swaay noted that he was still following up on boats left on the Club grounds without parking fees paid.

Secretary – Strouts reported that membership cards had been distributed to those present at Work Day and the remainder would be mailed to members.  He requested discussion about what information should be included in the membership roster posted to the website.  Consensus was that no roster be posted, that a complete roster be emailed to each member, and that a message be put on the website directing inquires regarding membership list to the Club secretary.

Race Director – Mahorney reported that the first race of the season would be the Scott Liebler long distance race on Memorial Day weekend.  The race is scheduled for Saturday May 23, with Monday May 25 as the backup date.

Social Director – Crespino reported that snacks were provided for the Work Day crew and a good turnout of members at the Spring Launch.  He will offer support for the Memorial Weekend Brunch hosted by Henry Otto.

Old Business:

Derelict boats: Discussion continued from the previous meeting.  The newly adopted bylaws now have a due process for boats on Club grounds.  This will need to be followed if we need to initiate any action to remove boats for which parking or mooring fees are in arrears.

New Business:

Annual Banquet:  It was noted that the BVYC Annual Banquet is scheduled for November 7 and this is the same date as the KU vs. K-State football game.  Meadowlark Hills was suggested as a potential site to hold the event.  Crespino will research options and present alternatives at a future Board meeting.

BVYC items for sale:  Consensus was to authorize Bob Mullen to proceed with ordering and stocking various items with the new BVYC logo for sale to members.

Memorial Day weekend festivities:  There was a brief discussion about encouraging members to get involved in the Brunch and race on Memorial weekend.  Mahorney will send race information soon to develop interest in the race.

Announcements:

The next board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., June 1 at the BVYC shelter and hosted by Wayne Martin.

There was a discussion about the need for updating BVYC equipment such as the generator, Ford tractor, John Deere lawn tractor and the committee boat.

Strouts noted that the Sea Scouts had their first sailing meeting on Sunday, May 3 with 11 scouts in attendance.  Several more have shown interest and it is hoped that there will 15 or more by the summer sailing season.  He also noted interest was also being seen in the 2009 Kansas Sea Base offered by the Boy Scouts of America, Coronado Area Council.

Meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Daryl Strouts

BVYC secretary
