Reports:

Commodore – No report.

Vice Commodore – No report.

Rear Commodore – Hancock reported that there were 30+ people at Work Day and the club grounds were put into good order.  The new generator was delivered and Wayne Martin will complete the installation soon.  The Sea Scouts conducted a project to repaint the numbers on the mooring balls, which was much appreciated.

Treasurer – Mahorney reported that dues and fees have been received for 32 members.

Secretary – No report

Race Director – Strouts reported that a Race Committee had been formed and met just prior to Work Day.  The committee is planning to hold long distance races each month from May through September as well as weekly races in the harbor for small boats.  Socialization will be the primary focus of the races and it is planned to have hamburgers for most events for racers and spectators alike.  Small prizes will be given for races and trophies will be given at the awards banquet for the Distance Race series and the Harbor Race series.  Information will be emailed to members in the near future.

Social Director – Mullen reported that she has reservations for 32 members and guest for the Spring Launch dinner scheduled for 6pm April 27.  The newly completed scrapbook and the newsletter notebook will be available for viewing at that time.

Old Business:

Board Vacancies – Crespino noted that the Vice Commodore and Secretary positions would soon be vacant, as Matt and Allison Loyd will soon be moving from the area.  Crespino will approach various members to consider completing these terms.

Abandoned boats – It was noted that there are two boats on the club grounds that appear to be abandoned.  Mahorney will conduct a survey to see if there are additional boats on the grounds on which fees have not been paid.  Crespino will send out an email to see if ownership can be determined for the abandoned boats.

New Business:

Memorial Weekend activities – It is anticipated that the May social event will be Henry Otto hosting a brunch on May 29 at the BVYC.  The Opti-dingy builders race is tentatively scheduled to follow brunch to show off the boats built by several club members for the Blue Valley Youth Sailing Foundation.  The Scott Liebler Memorial Race will be that afternoon.  May 31 is the alternate date for the race in case of bad weather.

Kansas Corporate Report & IRS 990 – It was noted that the club must file the Kansas Corporate Annual Report and the IRS Form 990N each year to maintain its corporate non-profit status.  The treasurer is responsible for doing these by May 15.

The Board approved a request for Gary Clark to use the shelter on May 2nd or 3rd for a gathering of K-State engineering students.

Crespino will check with Deon van der Merwe, advisor for the K-State Sailing Club to determine their status.  If they wish to continue, he will request a plan of action from them for consideration by the Board.

The recent passing of the mother of former Commodore Ron Frey was noted.  Consensus was to send a sympathy card on behalf of the Board.

Strouts will continue to research alternatives for the committee boat repair/replacement/sale and report to the board.  Action may be taken via email if necessary before the next Board meeting.

A motion was approved to purchase a 20 or 25- pound propane bottle for the new generator.

A motion was approved to give the old generator to Jim Crespino for the cost of removing it from the club grounds.

A motion was approved to give the old Sabre lawn mower to Wayne Martin for the cost of removing it from the club grounds.

A motion was approved to establish a Social Membership category for non-boat owners that are sponsored by a current member.   Dues for Social Members would be $50 annually.

On June 19 a Sale & Sail event will be hosted at the Club.  This will be an opportunity for Club members to sell or swap sailing related items.  The Club will provide hamburgers, etc. for lunch and an open sail will follow that afternoon.

The next board meeting is scheduled for June 14 at the Jane Mullen home.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Daryl Strouts
