Secretary's Message
It is hard to imagine as I type this newsletter that spring is on its way. Hopefully, we will be sailing soon. As both your new secretary and a new member to the club, I would like to encourage more active membership from new and old members alike. There are many ways this can be accomplished through attending work and social events, by racing in the spring series, or by simply greeting and chatting with fellow members. If you have input for the newsletter, please e-mail me at tbk296@aol.com. The Board would love to have input into bettering the sailing experience for all.

Commodore's Message
Is anyone ready for some ice sailing? It seems that this winter just does not want to leave. However, it will be spring soon and then the sailing season will be upon us. I would like to thank everyone who returned their questionnaires with their membership information. This information is being put to good use by the long range planning committee, and they will be giving a report on the findings at the Spring Banquet. I hope to see many of you at the many exciting races and functions we have planned. Finally, I am always interested in ideas and suggestions, so please feel free to contact me at 539-2374 or by e-mail at kenph@interkan.net.
Good Sailing,
Ken Hays

Upcoming Events
Spring Banquet: Attached you will find information about our Spring Banquet to be held on April 7. It promises to be an outstanding event.

Work Day is April 21. As many of you may have already realized, there is much to be done on our spring work day this year. The KSU Sailing Club has prepared the junk boats for removal. We will also be working on fixing the buoys and dock. Ned and Barbara Gatewood have promised a veritable banquet to those who brave the fickle spring weather to help out.

The combination to the gate will change on our workday. The new information is written on your membership cards. Kansas Sea Base at the Blue Valley Yacht Club is August 17, 18, and 19. Please mark your calendars as we may need instructors. Last year we had 25 boy scouts. We are aiming to double the attendance this year. In addendum, the Tuttle Creek Lake Association has donated $10 per child for participation in Sea Base.

Racing Season is fast approaching. Ken Conrow sends the following message: The racing schedule consists of races every other week from April to October. That will make four Sunday races in each of the spring, summer, and fall series. Because the water is just plain cold in April, the first race will not be until April 29, with the omitted mid-April race delayed until June 10, when conditions should be at their very best. The only back-to-back Sundays are the first three weeks of June. The series races do not fall on Labor Day or Memorial Day weekends, at which times long distance races will be held.

Membership will be reminded early in each week before a race on the coming Sunday, and requiring five positive responses for a race to be held. Responses will be required by Friday, so there will be time to notify would-be racers if a race does not make. If a race is canceled due to lack of interest, there will be no makeup. If bad weather causes cancellation of a race in which people indicated they would participate, the notification and response cycle will be repeated in the following week in the hope of getting a makeup race in on the Sunday which would otherwise be an off one.

Series Schedule:
Spring Summer Fall
April 29 June 17 September 9
May 13 July 1 September 29
June 3 July 15 October 7
June 10 July 29 October 21
