We would be remiss if we published this edition of the Konza Sailor and not pay tribute to our recently departed Commodore John Joehnk. I am sure I write for each member of the Blue Valley Yacht Club when I state that John's service to the Club has certainly touched the lives of every one of us. During 5 of the 6 years in which John was a member of the Club he held leadership positions. In addition to touching every person's life, he also touched every piece of equipment and prop |

erty that is owned by the Club. If John wasn't involved with acquisition of the piece of equipment, he certainly was involved with its repair, at least once. Perhaps most notable of John's contributions was his intense interest with working with the Boy Scouts and the members of the Kansas State Sailing Club. He knew that the future of our Club lay in the hands of the youth and he worked tirelessly to develop their skills and interest in sailing. John, we miss you and wish you eternal peace. |

Welcome Sailors! I would like to welcome everyone to another year of excellent Kansas sailing, provided we ever get some water back in the lake. That of course leads to another quick reminder that as boats are put back in the water, to keep an eye out for those pesky stumps. For those of you that have not been out to the lake since last fall you will notice many changes. These include a new larger shelter, a ramp from the end of the jetty, and the widening of the boat ramp to the edge of the jetty. I would like to thank everyone who came out and helped, especially Wayne Martin and Tom Manney for bringing their tractor and skid loader to help move the heavier rock and dirt.
