John Joehnk Memorial Flagpole Dedication
Saturday, August 30, 2003

Approximately 35 members and friends of the Blue Valley Yacht Club and Sea Scout Ship 5074 gathered at the Blue Valley Yacht Club Grounds at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, to dedicate a flagpole in memory of the late John Joehnk


The ceremony began with a call to order by Sea Scout Bos'n Harrison Otto.  Following that order members of the Sea Scout Ship 5074 received from

Ruth Joehnk the United States flag which had been given by Veteran's Affairs at the time of John's funeral.  The scout contingent then raised the United States Ensign to the gaff portion of the memorial flagpole, led those gathered for the occasion in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, raised the Blue Valley Yacht Club Burgee to the main truck of the pole, raised International Code Flags spelling out
