New Members: This summer the Club had a major increase in membership with the addition of six new memberships. The following sketches are provided to give everyone an opportunity to "get to know" the new members more quickly. Dominic Gelinas Dominic Gelinas completed his Bachelor's degree at K-State last May and is currently working on his Masters degree in Computer Science. He started sailing with his parents on a 23' monohull in Montreal, Canada. They sailed the St. Laurence River and visited Lake Champlain a couple of times. In 1990 his family moved to Los Angeles, and he got the opportunity to sail on the Pacific. He claims to not have much experience sailing by himself, but he recently bought a Hobie 16' just prior to joining the Yacht Club. He spent the summer working in Phoenix and is excited about the remainder of the 2003 sailing season. Jeff Head Jeff Head, the Director of Krider Center, College of Architecture, Planning, and Design, comes to us with over 15 years of sailing experience. Significant events in his sailing career (which you will surely want to hear more about) are camping-cruising on Lake Powell in a sailing canoe and getting knocked down on Cheney Lake by the downdraft out of a thunderhead in his Blackwatch 24. Jeff says that his boat's seaworthiness made up for his lack of experience with severe weather. Jeff has two sailing vessels: Elusive - a 20 foot, plywood/fiberglass, twin-headsail, gaff-rig cutter and a green Coleman sailing canoe. Welcome to both Dominic and Jeff! |
