Welcome Aboard
By Commodore Diane Barker

Welcome aboard sailors to the 2004 sailing season at the BVYC. The cove is frozen at 1071.61 while the boats are safely parked in their newly marked berths and covered with tarps on the hill and in the dinghy park. The roof is back on the old shelter with the committee boat and tractor stowed beneath.  This winter quiescence belies all the preparations for a lively sailing season that must be going on in garages and basements across town.

So patch your tenders, mend your sails, fiberglass your hulls, and check your rigging while ye may.  Our first official event will be the Spring Work Day and Spring Banquet on April 3rd. Check this newsletter for the basic calendar of events, but keep a close watch as Randy Zelenka fills in the racing schedule and as the Board adds social events like moonlight sails, raft-ups, and women's sailing programs.

Because the past Board of Directors and membership accomplished so many improvements at the Club including the new shelter, extended jetty, electricity, and the new work barge, we should have more time to sail.  I'm not saying that we are through making improvements, but let's take advantage of our much-improved yacht club and spend more time out on the water.

So make ready and make way for a great sailing season!

Buon vento,
Commodore Diane
