BVYC Communications
By Bart Bartholomew, Webmaster

The BVYC fleet may not consist of the latest makes and models of sailing yachts, but we surely are a progressive group of sailors in other matters.  Would you believe that of last year's membership only one member was without email and access to the Internet?  Hopefully, this year's membership will be equally as high-tech.  With our high-tech membership, communications within the Club can and should be almost instantaneous.

The Board recently approved moving the Club's website to a new Internet Service Provider (ISP).  The new ISP supports the use of FrontPage for publishing the web-site which certainly makes my life as webmaster less cumbersome.  The ISP also provides the opportunity to make email distribution more easily tailored to our needs.

I have made up two email distribution lists that I feel the membership at-large will want to use periodically throughout the year.  These lists are:

directors@bluevalleyyachtclub.org  to communicate with all the members of the Board of Directors

and  sailors@bluevalleyyachtclub.org  to communicate with all the members of BVYC.

Additionally, I have made a unique, easily rememberable email handle for each of the board members.  If you go to the Directors page of the Club web site, or this page in any newsletter, and click on a given director's name, you will be ready to send a message to that person using an @bluevalleyyachtclub.org email address.  For instance, the Commodore's email handle is:

commodore@bluevalleyyachtclub.org

As we go through the year, and you perceive the need for additional email distribution lists and/or other ways in which we can make use of the Club's Internet service, please share your ideas with me or any member of the Board of Directors.

Smooth sailing and smooth communicating,
Bart

Time and Weather Checks
By Bart Bartholomew, Webmaster

How many of you, like I, have been frustrated with trying to synchronize your watch with the Race Committee's watch at the same time you are listening to the instructions for a race, wondering whether your crew will arrive on-time, trying to decide on which sails to install, etc. just before a BVYC Race?
