As mentioned in the above obituary, Phil was one of the few remaining founding members of our Club.  When most of us think of Phil, one of two images come to mind.  The first has Phil in control of his Catalina 22, Frogg, and seating in the cockpit is his wife, Helen.  Although Helen never took part in sailing the boat, she was often with Phil when he ventured onto the lake.  The second image is of Phil taking pictures either at the Club grounds or from his boat out on the lake.  A number of BVYC members are fortunate to have one or more of Phil's photographs proudly displayed in our homes.

The memory of Phil and Helen Hostetter will live long within the Blue Valley Yacht Club.

In Memoriam

(Continued from page 1)

active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, especially enjoying time spent at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.  He was an avid photographer, and enjoyed traveling with his wife to many locations throughout the world.

On September 7, 1941, he was married to the former Helen Marie Whitwam.  She preceded him in death on March 12, 1997.

Dr. Hostetter is survived by two daughters: Carol Pacey and her husband David of Manhattan, Kansas, and Dorothy Brecheisen and her husband Warren of Cedar Falls, Iowa, by two sons: Jim Hostetter of Topeka, Kansas, and Bob Hostetter and his wife Judy of King City, California.  Two brothers: Robert Hostetter of Beverton, Oregon and Homer Clyde Hostetter of Mesa, Arizona, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and his companion: Shirley Dodge also survive.

Franz Samelson, during a visit with Phil earlier this summer, learned that Phil did not own a BVYC t-shirt.  Franz suggested that the Club give Phil a t-shirt.  On August 24, Bob and Jane Mullen and Bart and Mary Bartholomew visited with Phil and presented him with the coveted BVYC t-shirt.
