Race season (continued)

(Continued from page 5)

At the time that this newsletter went to press it was not certain if the competition had ended. An earlier race had been postponed so the race director is attempting to make up the event on Sunday, October 16th. It is possible that weather and water temperature will influence racers enthusiasm. At the end of the current six race fall series, Marti Ottenheimer is in first place followed, in order, by Ken Conrow, Ned Gatewood, Harriet Ottenheimer and Chris Ross and Bob Mullen (tie). A shake up in these standings could result if a concluding race is held on October 16th. The rest of the field, Bart, Franz, Sean, Tom and Fred Nelson, could displace the top five with a good showing in the final races.

The fall program actually kicked off with the annual long distance race over the Labor Day week end. This event was won by Mike Lucas and Dave Sislo. Second place went to Marti and Harriet Ottenheimer and Ken Conrow won 3rd place honors. Diane Barker 4th and Bob Mullen finished in 5th place.

It should be noted that participation in the program improved with each race. We hope that popular Wednesday evening races and an in-the-harbor race course will generate more participation in 2006. And finally, a big thanks to Ken Conrow, Chris Ross, Jennifer Martin and Doug Gibson for helping to officiate the fall races.
