Committee boat |

After suffering through long periods of boat mainten-ance headaches, then long periods of discussions and longer periods of searching want ads and boatyards the BOD finally decided on a replacement for the often maligned committee boat. The old boat had seen better days.
The old boat spent the better part of the 2004 sailing season in and out of repair shops and adversely affected the race program. Moreover, the boat had seen abuse and, even when running, was somewhat of an eyesore and difficult to launch and operate. The race director in 2004 recommended that the club buy a more reliable watercraft.
But, finding a replacement boat in the low price range was not easy. In 2004 the BOD looked at photos of boats, discussed pros and cons and then decided to continue the search during the fall and winter. Spring came and no boat had been found. In May the BOD considered four recommendations and finally settled on the purchase of a small 15 foot Silverline with 40 horsepower motor.
The Silverline is not perfect and had maintenance problems that took most of the summer to sort out. Admittedly, it is a bit small but that factor makes it easier |

to launch and retrieve. The V bottom is a bonus in choppy seas. In an emergency, the boat can be launched with the John Deere although the Deere would struggle in pulling it from the water. The boat (and motor) is of late 70’s vintage but has nice lines and is considered to be in nice condition. We hope that the boat will be an asset to the club. |
