2011 - a year of ups and downs

     As Carl Hinrichs said when he was commodore, "The Tuttle tides are longer and higher than at the Bay of Fundy"  Tuttle “tides”: yes, many of us were thinking that we might be on the way to another record year as the water level came up and up covering the shelter pad and on into the dinghy park.  Fortunately, the tide peaked at only 17 feet above the normal pool elevation of 1075 feet.  The good news is that when the Corps of Engineers started releasing water it quickly went down to normal and remained there during the rest of the season.  That was really the only “down” for the year; the rest of the year was “up.” 

     As usual, Social Director Jane Mullen treated the Club to a variety of social events despite the inaccessibility to the Club grounds during a portion of the season.  The last of these events was the traditional Fall Banquet held at the Clarion on November 19.  In Jane’s usual style the evening consisted of pleasant decorations, delicious food, and an interesting presentation by a guest speaker.

     As is customary, the evening’s activities included the presentation of awards.   Despite the adverse weather conditions, Race Director Ken Hays, with the help of Henry Otto had conducted a few races.   Chris Becker with crew Gina Becker and Bart Bartholomew won the Scott Liebler Memorial Race on the Memorial Day weekend and Henry Otto won the Spring Series. 

     Bob Mullen having done his usual stellar job of identifying members willing to take on the responsibility of serving on the board of directors presented the slate of nominees.  The slate was approved unanimously; their names appear on page 2 of this letter and their photo is on page 3.
