In beautiful early fall weather and a gusty variable west-northwest wind the Blue Valley Yacht Club held the first races of the Fall Series Sunday afternoon. Two races were run back-to-back, the first over a modified Olympic course and the second a simple triangle on Tuttle Creek Lake.
Nine sailboats turned out, including four sunfish and two Hobie 16s, making for some spirited competition within classes in the context of an overall handicap system. T.J. Ciaffone and Martin Ottenheimer, sailing in a Hobie and a sunfish, respectively, placed 1, 2 in the first race, and reversed that order in the second race. Harriet Ottenheimer was third in both races. In the first race, the remaining places were Bill Schapaugh (O'Day 20), Bob Duteau (Hobie 16), "Bart" Bartholomew (Sunfish), Chris Ross (Laguna 22), Troy Walker (Sunfish), and Franz Samelson (Laser). In the second race, the remaining places were "Bart" Bartholomew, Chris Ross, Bob Duteau, and Troy Walker.
BVYC sailors look forward to the three remaining race days of the fall season.
